Little Extras Can be Necessities for Entrepreneurs

Getting kicked out of the nest is a good milestone to reach for Roseville’s Glue Factory entrepreneurs. That means they’ve learned to fly. Nice work.

For the Glue Factory, It’s all part of the plan. Our fledging businesses learn, move on, expand, hire, rent space, order supplies and pay taxes. Then they become Roseville’s next civic leaders, and mentor new entrepreneurs with plans to start, grow and hire. Confidence in the area grows, financing flows and economic prosperity abounds.

So when they are ready, we’ll wish good luck to our inaugural entrepreneurs and offer these parting words. “Don’t run out of money”!

As a serial entrepreneur who mentors up-and-comers, I’ve seen many times the unfortunate circumstances that lead to a new company delaying growth or going south because of a simple matter of cash flow.

For startups, revenues are wonderful, but timing is everything. Payroll expenses can’t be fudged, vendors can’t be left in the lurch, and landlords expect the rent. So, if those first few promised payments are delayed, a crisis can occur for the startup that a larger business could ride out with lines of credit or other established methods.

The Glue Factory decided there is just too much at stake to let a snafu get in the way of success. That’s why we have started the Glue Factory Impact Fund. The idea is for all of us to invest in our community by investing in these successful startups. A $500 investment, multiplied by as many of you as we can muster, could build a nice life raft and keep the successful small businesses afloat.

Believe me, the Impact Fund is not a resource for companies on the edge of a cliff. We know our Glue Factory companies very well, and we know which ones have the chops to grow. We also know that owning a business is a never-ending cycle of learning, updating technology, attending conferences, jazzing up marketing, finding new clients and even paying back the long-suffering attorney. The Impact Fund will be that invaluable resource.

A one-time lift from the Glue Factory Impact Fund can make a big difference when a company is young and money is tight. When you give to the Impact Fund, your ROI is knowing that a new, local business has found its legs, can make deals and is on its way.

There are a million nonprofits out there that of course need our support. But many of our ills can be solved with a job. Let’s grow these Glue Factory businesses; let’s grow the Impact Fund.

The Glue Factory is a unique and collaborative approach between 3fold Communications and the Health Education Council, in partnership with the City of Roseville and the Roseville Community Development Corporation (RCDC). Contributions should be made to The Health Education Council, a registered California 501(c)3 and can be mailed to 3950 Industrial Blvd #600, West Sacramento, CA 95691.
